#21 Rickey Henderson

Image
Rickey Henderson OF 1979-2003 10x All Star, MVP, All Time Stolen Base Leader Baseball Hall of Fame 2009 The most disruptive top of the lineup force in the history of the game. He's the all time leader in stolen bases, he's the all time leader in leadoff home runs. The all time leader in runs scored. He's second all time in walks. He's a member of the 3000 hit club.  If you're advanced stats guy- he's 14th all time in position player WAR.  He's a .284 career postseason hitter, with 2 World Series rings. He's the lone member of the 1000 steals club. HIs numbers dropped off later in his career but Rickey kept playing because Rickey loved baseball.  What's more Rickey was cool. He was fast, his uniform looked different on him - he had the chains and the shades and he made old white writers uncomfortable. He was the straw that stirred the drink for the 89 A's which was one of the great teams of all time.  He suffers a little bit from the Yogi stuff ...

#22 Randy Johnson

Randy Johnson P 1988-2009 5x Cy Young, 10x All Star Baseball Hall of Fame 2015 We love comparisons in sports. When a new guy comes along who does he remind you of? Is so and so a "poor man's" version of another star? Randy Johnson is a one of one. There have been other dudes that threw gas, there have been other dudes that were tall, left handed, with a electric slider, maybe even with a crazy mullet. There has never been anyone with all of those things.  Six foot ten! Didn't always look human. No question the best lefty in the last part of the last century and first part of the new century.  A ten time all star, with 5 Cy Young awards. He won 4 ERA titltes, 9 strikeout titles, he won 303 games against 166 losses.  He completed 100 games which now seems insane. He was the MVP of the 2001 World Series.  He was apointment viewing, if The Big Unit was going it was go time. He threw 100, he let it go from what looked like halfway to the mound, hell he even blew up...

#23 Ernie Banks

Ernie Banks SS-1B 1953-1971 14x All Star, 2x MVP Baseball Hall of Fame 1977 The position of shortstop had never been a power position. Guys like Joe Cronin would hit a few out, Vern Stephens had an outlier year, later guys like Rico Petrocelli would have a 40 HR year. Ernie Banks was a shortstop, a gold glove shortstop, and he hit the ball out of the ball park. A lot. A member of the 500 home run club before the PED guys distorted it, Ernie Banks was one of the best players in baseball in the 50s and still into the 60s when he moved to first base. He won 2 MVP awards  back to back on unremarkable Cubs teams...hell his nickname was Mister Cub. Anytime you're in the first line of a history of a franchise you were pretty darn good. He started his career inthe Negro Leagues and retried in 1971- a stunning run for a stunning talent.  He's still ranked among the top 40 in Home Runs (23rd with 512), RBI (33rd with 1636) and Extra Base Hits (38th with 1009). He's one of only 6 play...
