Early Wynn was a dude you didn't want to dig in against. "I have the right to knock down anyone with a bat" he was quoted as saying. Beyond being a menace to plate crowders Early Wynn was one of the best pitchers of his generation, losing some time to World War 2 he pitched for the Senators, Indians, and White Sox. He lead the league in wins in 1954 for the pennant winning Indians and also in 1959 when he won the Cy Young and finished 3rd in MVP voting as he lead the "Go Go Sox" to the World Series.
He won exactly 300 games and had a staggering 289 career complete games. Also in the pre DH days he managed to club 17 home runs in his career, and he was tabbed to pinch hit 90 times.
He made his major league debut at 19 and his final appearance at 43.
He also had one of my all time favorite baseball related quotes. "When I stop playing they're going to have to come take the uniform off me...and the guy who comes better have help"
Early Wynn got the call to Cooperstown in 1972.
Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
