The Hawk! I'm generally against giving the MVP to a player from a last place team. If you finished last how valuable was the player really? When I look at Andre Dawson's 1987 season I kinda almost sorta get it. Andre Dawson burst onto the scene before my time in Montreal as a 5 tool monster. Winning gold gloves, hitting homers, stealing bases, basically doing it all. By the time I became aware he was in Chicago and pretty much down to a feared slugger (all those years on Montreal turf did a number on the Hawk's knees) but he was so productive.
He is one of only 8 players with 300 home runs and 300 steals, and one of only 5 with 400 homers and 300 steals. His career totals of 438 homers and 2774 hits are no slouch either. The fact that he remained productive hobbling around the second half of his career is outstanding.
He unfortunately never got to play in the World Series but when you spend your career in Montreal and Chicago (brief stops in Boston and Florida at the end) those things are gonna happen.
He got into Cooperstown in 2010 and it was well overdue.
Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
