Rafael Palmeiro is a ton of production with a complicated legacy. He mostly played in the American League during a monster time for First Basemen so he only made 4 all star teams, but he ends up with 3000 hits and 500 home runs and a career .288 average.
The complications come in with the PED stuff, and sure every player in baseball in that era is looked at sideways because of PEDs but Palmeiro lied directly to congress. That's a tough look. Never mind that congress worrying itself with steroids in baseball is incredibly embarrassing to begin with. That being said though, every story about Palmeiro's career from now until the end of time is going to start with that clip.
3,000 hits and 500 home runs. Willie Mays: Cooperstown, Hank Aaron: Cooperstown, Eddie Murray: Cooperstown, Albert Pujols: will be Cooperstown, and Rafael Palmeiro. That's the list.
Came up with the Cubs as a high average low/medium power guy, and then spent 2 tours each with the Rangers and Orioles. The power came along (with some help probably) but he ends up a 4 time all star, a few top 10 MVP votes and again 3000 hits and 500 homers!
He's gonna have the shadow over him forever, but what he did on the field is enough to crack the top 100 for sure.
Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
