#64 Kirby Puckett
Kirby Puckett
CF
1984-1995
10 Time All Star, 6 Time Gold Glove
Baseball hall of Fame
In 1991 I was 8 years old, and baseball was all that mattered to me. The 91 World Series was an all timer, The Braves who I had adopted due to being able to watch them all summer on TBS and the Twins had both gone worst to first and were playing for a World Series.
I was rooting for the Braves, the Twins were weird...they played in a weird stadium with trashbag walls and hockey boards, and their best player was their little fat centerfielder who seemed to hit everything and make every play.

I fell in love with Kirby Puckett that series, he was one of those dudes that made you feel like the game was made for him. He was listed at 5-8/180 and he was the best centerfielder in the American League from 1984 until Griffey showed up.
His career was cut short by a loss of vision in his right eye and he died tragically young- but what he accomplished while he was here was staggering. A ten time all star, 2 time world champion, and a lifetime .318 hitter. He also won 6 gold gloves patrolling centerfield at the Metrodome.
His career totals aren't quite on par with the rest of the Hall of Fame, but what's the point in having a Hall of Fame if Kirby Puckett isn't in it. He was elected to the Hall in 2001. As for me, baseball never matters to you as much as when you're 8, so Kirby belongs on any forever team we're putting together.
Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
