#80 Gaylord Perry
Gaylord Perry
P
1962-1983
2 Time Cy Young Award, 5 Time All Star
Baseball Hall of Fame
Gaylord Perry was the first man to win the Cy Young in both leagues. He had tremendous longevity accumulating 314 wins despite beginning his career as a reliever.
He ranks in the top 10 all time in wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched. He is top 20 in games started and shutouts. He was a five time All Star.
A horse, he finished 303 of his starts.
Now the elephant in the room is the spitter. He admitted to using one early in his career and was suspected but never caught of using one the rest of his career. He had an elaborate pre pitch routine to mess with attempts to pick up where he was getting whatever substance he was using from.
Some call that cheating, other gamesmanship, but hey, it's part of the tale. Either way he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1991. The man could pitch, and did for a long long time.
Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
