Richie Ashburn gets a little lost to history. I think part of this is the way we LOVE power numbers. Richie Ashburn did everything except hit for power but he did it all really really well. No one got more hits in the 1950's than Richie Ashburn and in the pre gold glove era he was routinely the best defensive center fielder in the National League.
His 2,574 career hits and lifetime .308 average jump out at your, but he also lead the league in walks 4 times. He also lead the league in stolen bases in his rookie season and twice lead the league in triples.
His 28 home runs are the least of any position player on this list, but he was such a good player it doesn't matter.
He is one of the most beloved figures in Philadelphia sports history for his outstanding career patrolling center and also his long career as a Phillies broadcaster. In 1995 two years before his death Richie Ashburn got his Cooperstown call.
Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
