#93 Dick Allen
Dick Allen
3B/1B
1963-1977
7 Time All Star
MVP, Rookie of the Year
Is Dick Allen the best player not in the Hall of Fame? If you throw out the PED suspected guys (and even keep some of them in) the answer is probably yes. Dick Allen had a relatively short career for a HOF guy, only 15 years, but he made a huge impression; Willie Mays (who we'll get to later) once said that he never saw anyone hit a baseball harder than Dick Allen. John Ogden, the scout who signed Allen had pitched against Babe Ruth in the 20s and said Allen was the only person he had ever seen hit the ball as hard as Ruth.
The numbers are wildly impressive for his prime. He twice lead the league in homers (ending up with 351 for his career) he also lead the league in RBI and twice in On Base Percentage in a time before walks were really valued he piled them up.
He had a trouble time in Philly as the media and fans weren't easy on him. He ended up with the Cardinals and Dodgers before landing in Chicago for the White Sox, while on the Southside he put together an MVP season and some credit him with helping keeping the White Sox in Chicago. He hung it up mid-season in 1977 and since has waited for the Hall of Fame call. Althogh there is a vocal contingent of ex players strongly in his corner.
No need for lobbying here. Dick Allen was a dude.

Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
