Gary Carter was the premier catcher in the National League for a decade plus. He was an 11 time All Star who finished in the top 10 of the MVP voting 4 times. He was a mainstay for some very strong Expos teams in the late 70's and early 80's and established himself as one of the premier offensive catchers of his era. He ranks 6th on the all time home runs by a catcher list.

He was no slouch behind the plate either, posting 3 gold glove awards. He was a converted infielder who actually split time between catching and the outfield early in his career. He chose signing with the Expos over a scholarship offer to play quarterback at UCLA.

In 1985 Carter moved to the Mets and became an integral part of their roster. He anchored their 1986 championship team and caught for another division winner in 1988. He ended up kicking around with a few teams at the end of his career but retired as one of the respected old guys of the game.

Carter was enshrined in Cooperstown in 2003 and was the first player to wear an Expos cap on his plaque. His unfortunate untimely death in 2012 was commemorated by a patch on the Mets jerseys and by a moving pregame ceremony by the Montreal Canadians (as the Expos had long left town)

"The Kid" was one of the best to ever do it.

Anthony Leonelli is a 37 year old College Baseball Coach and amateur baseball arguer. If you wanna know how this list came together check here criteria. He thinks that George Brett winning batting titles in 3 decades is pretty awesome.
